Global School Play Day
Florence Roche classrooms will be participating in the Global School Play Day on Wednesday, February 6th. Each teacher will determine the level of involvement based on their classroom schedules. Activities may include playing a traditional board game, using games connected to grade level curriculum and even getting outside to experience some outdoor games and activities.
Allowing time for unstructured play offers children valuable opportunities to problem solve and develop their social and emotional learning skills.
Check out this link Global School Play Day to learn more about this effort to support children in developing these important skills.

A Note From Mrs. Petrucci in the Nurse's Office
Florence Roche Elementary
342 Main Street
Groton, MA 01450
978-448-6666 fax: 978-448-3988
Dear Florence Roche Parents and Guardians,
It is our goal to have students strive for good attendance. However, there are times when it is best for children to stay home from school. When children are not well it is in their best interest to stay home to recuperate, as well as helping to reduce the spread of illness to classmates.
Please see below for when your child must stay home from school:
Fever of 100 degrees or greater- Students need to be FEVER FREE for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medications, such as Tylenol or Motrin) before returning to school. Fever reducing medication can cover up a fever, and the fever could return when the medication wears off.
Vomiting or Diarrhea-Students may return to school 12-24 hours AFTER their last episode of vomiting or diarrhea. If your child vomits in the morning prior to school they must stay home.
Uncontrollable or Infectious cough
Contagious Bacterial Infection-Infections such as strep throat, conjunctivitis or impetigo require students to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Suspicious rash-Students may return to school with written documentation from a health care provider certifying that the rash is not contagious.
Please remember to call the absent line to report your child’s absence. When calling please include a reason for the absence and any symptoms they are having or diagnosis from the doctor-such as fever, headache, continuous cough, strep throat, flu, stomach virus, etc.
Hand washing is the number one way to help the transmission of germs. As this is not always possible please consider sending in a small container of hand sanitizer in your child’s lunch box to use prior to eating.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Natalie Petrucci BSN, RN, NCSN

Parent Reminders for Drop Off Procedure
As we head into our winter season, this is a good time to
provide a few reminders about the parent drop off procedure in
the morning.
1. We encourage children to let themselves out of the car when
signaled by the greeter. We do not expect parents to get
out of the car. If your child needs assistance, please just let
us know.
2. A child should never exit the car on the inside of the circle,
walk in front, in back or between vehicles. A child should
always exit the car on the sidewalk side of the circle as this
is the safest way.
3. Always pull as far forward as possible or where signaled by
the greeter before stopping and letting your child out. This
will prevent a back up in the driveway and on Main Street.
Thank you for your support in making this a safe and
efficient process.
